Before proceeding, confirm that you own the official version of the media player. If yes, go ahead.

First, visit microsoft.com.

Scroll down the “Download & Trials” section. In the search box, where it says “Download Center”, click it and type “codec” in the search box on the upper part of the page, and press “Enter”.
The site will show you approximately 18 results. Choose “Code Installation Package” which is compatible with Windows Media Player 7.1 or later, and supports the current WMP 10 and 11.

Second, validate the file.

Press the “Update” button, a pop-up will appear and ask your confirmation if you want to download it. Continue the process by following the pop-ups. You probably need to run a validation tool, get the validation code and enter the code in the blank box as the indications.

Third, open the file and finish the installation.

Just click “Next” and install the basic setup. The installation process is easy and doesn’t require any assistance.
